In college, there's an unofficial checklist you're inclined to fulfill before graduating and go out into the adult world. This checklist contains goals that will make finding a job easier and hopefully benefit you in your adult life. I'm not talking about a bucket list, college-type activities that include doing a keg stand or getting thrown into the Westcott Fountain on your 21st birthday.
This list includes activities that every college student should attempt to do at least once before graduation—things that will actually help you succeed in life after college and during your job search process. Though not mandatory, or even advertised much, it's important for every college student to volunteer, join at least one club, and intern somewhere before they graduate. These are as important as attending class and getting good grades—which is always easier said than done.
A number of college students don't end up taking part in those essential career-building activities simply because they just don't know what's out there or even that they're important—and on top of that, college students are excessively lazy. Unlike the constant pressure of maintaining a solid GPA, there isn't that same feeling for getting an internship. It's not only a good idea, it's a necessity when applying for jobs, and students need that hands-on experience on their resume.
Filling a resume falls solely on the shoulder of the student, you have to take the initiative and apply for internships.
At the beginning of this semester, as my roommates prepare for graduation, I realized that I would soon be a junior in college and it was time to get my act together. I applied for an internship and got it, and currently in the process of trying to join a club.
Applying for the internship was one of my smartest decisions I've made since starting at Florida State—aside from applying to the FSView. Although it is time-consuming and sometimes hard to balance with school, I've learned a lot from the internship and I think it will benefit me in my future endeavors.
There is more to college than the glamorous nightlife. There are other necessary things that students should take the initiative and do before graduating—we are in college to mold our potential future success.
Interning, volunteering and being apart of a club are worthwhile to have on your resume. We only have four short years here at FSU—unless grad school is in your plans—and in those four years, it's important to involve yourself so when you leave, you'll have some experience that might put you ahead of someone else when applying for a job.

Sharon Bialek: Herman Cain knows who I am
By Stephanie Condon

Sharon Bialek, the first woman to step forward publicly with sexual harassment charges against Herman Cain, suggested Wednesday the presidential contender was lying yesterday when he said he doesn’t remember Bialek.
On MSNBC Wednesday, Bialek recounted an incident, which others have said they witnessed, in which she approached Cain at a Tea Party rally.
"I simply grasped his elbow and leaned in towards him to acknowledge he knew exactly who I was," she said. "He acknowledged who I was."
Bialek declined to reveal what she said to Cain at the event, but she said, "It was simply a few statements to jar his memory … That was only a month ago."
At a press conference on Tuesday, Cain said he did not recall ever seeing Bialek before she came forward with her allegations on Monday. "I tried to remember if I recognized her, and I didn’t. I tried to remember if I remembered that name, and I didn’t," he said.
Bialek said she was "very disappointed but not surprised" by Cain’s response, which she said "disrespected me and millions of other women across the country who are violated in the same way in the workplace."
Bialek earlier this week charged that, after a dinner meeting with Cain in 1997, Cain attempted to fondle her. Bialek had arranged the meeting to seek employment help from Cain, who was at the time head of the National Restaurant Association.

Before Bialek came forward, it was reported that two unidentified women had filed sexual harassment complaints against Cain at the NRA in the 1990′s. Then, a third unidentified woman alleged she was also harassed by Cain more than a decade ago. Bialek’s public statements prompted one unidentified women who file a complaint to also reveal her identity — Karen Kraushaar.
Kraushaar said she was interested in holding a joint press conference with all the women who say they were harassed by Cain.
Bialek said on MSNBC that she would be "all for" the joint press conference as long as her attorney Gloria Allred is also on board. Bialek added she is "proud" of Kraushaar for coming forward.
"If [my statements] just made one person come forward, it was worth it," she said.
Joel Bennett, the lawyer for Cain accuser Karen Kraushaar, said today that a joint press conference with women who have complained of harassment by Cain could be as early as tomorrow or Friday. He said Kraushaar is reaching out to the other woman who filed a complaint with the restaurant group.
"As of this time, we have not heard from the other women who have stated that they were sexually harassed," Kraushaar said in a statement. "We are still hopeful that they will have the courage to come forward, but we completely understand if they choose not to."
Cain’s campaign yesterday sent an email to Cain’s supporters aggressively attacking Bialek and calling into questions her motives. By citing her history in other lawsuits and her troubled financial history, Cain’s campaign suggested she was seeking a financial payoff.
Bialek maintained today, "I’m doing this because it’s the right thing to do," not for financial reasons.
Allred, who appeared on MSNBC with Bialek, said Cain’s motives for attacking Bialek need to be questioned.
"He has a financial and a political motivation," Allred said — namely to "be able to raise more money for his campaign [and] also to sell his book. His political motivation is to… stay on top" of the Republican presidential field.
While some have suggested Allred has a partisan motive (she donates to the Democratic party), Allred pointed out that she also represented a woman who came forward with complaints of sexual misconduct against disgraced Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner.
Allred pointed out that Weiner resigned a day after her famous press conference with her client.

Updated 6:34 p.m. Eastern Time
Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said Tuesday that he would be willing to take a lie detector test to rebut multiple claims that he engaged in sexual harassment in the 1990s, though he seemed to stop short of promising to do so.
"Yes. I absolutely would," Cain said when asked about taking a test. "But I’m not going to do that unless I have a good reason to do that. Of course I would be willing to do a lie detector test."
Sharon Bialek has accused Cain of putting his hand under her skirt and pushing her head toward his crotch after a dinner meeting in 1997, after she had been let go from the National Restaurant Association. She was the first woman to make the claim publicly, though three other women had done so anonymously.
During a press conference in Scottsdale to address the scandal threatening to engulf his campaign, Cain repeated his claim that he did not recognize Bialek when he saw her at her press conference Monday and said he did not remember her name.
"I tried to remember if I recognized her, and I didn’t. I tried to remember if I remembered that name, and I didn’t," he said.
As he has repeatedly, Cain categorically denied having all of the allegations leveled at him, saying, "I have never acted inappropriately with anyone. Period."
As for Bialek’s claims, Cain said, "They simply didn’t happen. They simply did not happen." He said he would not allow "false allegations" reflect negatively on his character.
Herman Cain: "I don’t even remember" Sharon Bialek
Cain said that his withdrawal from the presidential race "ain’t gonna happen" and vowed "we will get through this. We will get through this."
"The Democrat machine in America has brought forth a troubled woman to make false accusations," said Cain, who did not offer support for the claim that "the Democrat machine" was behind Bialek’s decision to go public. Bialek says she is a Republican and member of the Tea Party.
Cain acknowledged that he’d had a "tough" time since the "media started to beat me up" when the story broke last Sunday. He said that "when we allow deceit and false accusations to rule the day and distract us, that part [of the electoral process] is broken."
Cain relayed comments from his wife upon hearing the allegations, quoting her as saying Bialek’s allegation "doesn’t even sound like anything you would do to anyone." He also called on the media to "not drag my family into this." (See left.)
Cain said he considers sexual harassment to be a "serious" issue and said respect for women is a "top priority" for him. He said he had seen sexual harassment in the workplace personally, both with men harassing woman and "where women have attempted to sexually harass men."
He also repeated his claim, first made earlier in the day, that the charges were surfacing because there is "an element in this country, in our politics, that does not want to see a businessman succeed at getting the nomination from the Republican Party and does not want me to succeed at becoming president of the United States of America."
Cain’s campaign has aggressively attacked Bialek, emailing reporters a note Tuesday laying out what it cast as her "long and troubled history, from the courts to personal finances." Asked if financial issues were a motivation in her coming forward, Cain said Tuesday, "From a common sense standpoint, one would have to ask if that may have been a motivation."
On CBS’ "Early Show" Tuesday, Bialek said she came forward because she "wanted to help" Cain come clean about his personal history.
CBS News has confirmed Bialek filed for bankruptcy in 1991 and again ten years later. She also has been sued at least six times — for amounts under 00 over such issues as nonpayment of rent. She was evicted once. She also won and got child support in a paternity suit.
Bialek says she is not being paid for having come forward. According to the Chicago Tribune, she lives with her fiance, an executive in the medical equipment industry, in an "upscale home" in the suburbs of Chicago.
Bialek is the fourth woman to claim that Cain has acted inappropriately with her — but the first to do so publicly. The identity of another of Cain’s accusers, 55-year-old federal employee and registered Republican Karen Kraushaar, was revealed by iPad newspaper The Daily on Tuesday. A number of media outlets, including CBS News, had previously withheld Kraushaar’s name at her request.
Karen Kraushaar, Herman Cain sexual harassment accuser, goes public
Kraushaar’s attorney said last week that Kraushaar "stands by the complaint that she made" of "inappropriate behaviors and unwanted advances" by Cain, though he did not get into specifics.
After her name was revealed Tuesday, Kraushaar told CBS News that she is interested in holding a press conference with all of women who claim Cain sexually harassed them.
She said "the whole situation is so volatile right now I just don’t want to say anymore." Speaking to the New York Times, Kraushaar said, "When you are being sexually harassed in the workplace, you are extremely vulnerable. You do whatever you can to quickly get yourself into a job some place safe, and that is what I thought I had achieved when I left."
Asked about Kraushaar Tuesday, Cain said "that is the one [accuser] that I recall that filed a complaint but it was found to be baseless."
"When she made her accusations, they were found to be baseless and she could not find anyone to corroborate her story," he added. Cain said of Kraushaar that he "didn’t have regular interaction [with her], periodically I would see her."
Asked to discuss what specifically went on with Kraushaar, Cain repeated a story in which he said he had told Kraushaar that she is the same height as his wife, "because my wife also comes up to my chin."
Cain was introduced at his press conference by attorney L. Lin Wood, a prominent Atlanta-based Libel and Defamation attorney.
Wood represented Richard Jewell, the accused 1996 Olympic bomber, John and Patsy Ramesy and many other high-profile clients including Gary Condit, the victim in the Kobe Bryant case, and the mother of Anna Nicole Smith.
Wood said Cain is "on trial in the court of public opinion, falsely accused."
His client "has to respond not to admissible evidence, he has to respond to hearsay, he has to respond to rumors and speculation," Wood said.

…..item 3)…. Miami Beach Cop Blames "Sexual Aid Cream" for Firing …

Miami Beach cop Reinaldo Casas really wants his job back. He wants it back so badly he’s willing to admit he was once an aficionado of the most embarrassing product ever.
Sexual aid cream.
On February 27, the Miami Beach Police Department fired Casas — who’s been reprimanded for making "conflicting statements," missing court appearances, "excessive sick time usage," and "gross negligence" — when he tested positive for drug use, according to his internal affairs file.
But Casas wasn’t going down easy. He filed a grievance to explain how he’d tested positive for narcotic abuse. It’s not drugs, he swore.
Casas’s sexual prowess had been lacking, so he asked his girlfriend for advice. She had just the solution: "sexual aid cream/gel." So he slathered it on, and that was that.

Anyone seen my cream?

.
But then, on January 15, he was called into the Health Center of Miami for a drug test. It was administered by Dr. Ben Droblas. Later that day, according to an internal affairs file, Droblas called Casas and delivered the news: He failed.
Casas was flabbergasted. He then evidently picked up a thesaurus to properly annotate his state of mood in a grievance he filed shortly afterward. "I was baffled, perplexed, and confused as to how these [results] could be possible," Casas wrote March 13.
"However, over time, heavy deliberation and the insight of others, I was able to pinpoint the cause," wrote Casas, who didn’t return requests for comment for this story. "[It's] a sexual aid cream/gel… The sexual aid cream was provided to me by a friend to assist my sexual performance, and he never told me it contained [redacted drug name]. My girlfriend has used/applied the gel."

It’s unclear what lotion, exactly, Casas might have been applying that would have contaminated the results of his drug test. New Times was unable to find any specific creams that would muddy a drug test in such a manner. Though we did discover that men suffering from erectile dysfunction have a higher likelihood of abusing drugs than those who are sexually buoyant.
Indeed, if there are any untruths in Casas’ explanation, it wouldn’t be the first time. Even better, at one point he was making in excess of 0,000 annually.
Perhaps his biggest humdinger came in 2005, when Casas was deposed by the Miami-Dade public defender about his arrest of a man named Daryl Burford. Casas refused to answer whether he’d been fired from the Hialeah Police Department and allegedly became combative, according to his internal affairs file.
Then things got weird. "For the record, June 10, 2002, I was involved in a rollover crash, which 30 percent of my memory was not with me, so I don’t remember a whole lot," Casas blathered. "So for the record, we put that on the record."
When cops looked into his claim that he’d lost 30 percent of his memory in July 2005, they came up with nothing. In that same deposition, they also found he’d lied about whether any allegation against him had ever been sustained while he was employed at the Hialeah Police Department — when one involving his issuance of a citation had.
His conduct had been "highly inappropriate," a police investigator found, and Casas was suspended for two days.
But soon, Casas was back on the streets.
In 2006, he arrived at a traffic stop of an Enterprise Rent-A-Car van. According to his internal affairs file, the cop looked inside the van for "two seconds" and then allowed a tow truck to take it away — though it had more than ,000 worth of goods inside. Afterward, when the van’s owner asked what happened, Casas falsely claimed "there was no property in the van" when it was towed. He was cited for "gross negligence" and "gross inefficiency."
One year later, Casas missed a court appearance. He told the department he’d been absent because of a dental appointment — and asserted he’d informed them of that. But Miami Beach Police had no record of that purported telephone call, according to internal police records. It was his second unexcused absence in a year.
For the next several years, Casas kept his nose clean — until, of course, l’affaire sexual aid cream.
Miami Beach Police spokesperson Bobby Hernandez said Casas’ grievance report is awaiting arbitration.
