I’ve created a monster…
And there’s nothing left

Except a chilling breeze
of ashes dipped in hope
That passes when I’m not looking
The Fighter I used to Know

Now I’m Split
A Thought and a Hand

On a seesaw
Kicking the same spot
Where there used to be sand
to cover the questions
answers in disguise

And I wonder
I will always wonder
How we make This so complex
Trick ourselves into realizing
That monster under the bed

I just don’t want to forget

The essential beauty
–It’s the shit we throw in the dumpster–
of a world that fights answers with questions

Because that’s what answers are
And we’re the ones who fight it

Someone once said
the mind is like a gift and a curse
We wonder into the silence
We wonder to fill the space
that connects the beats of our own heart

I lie in bed at night, warmed beneath the covers
And wonder about the monster

And wonder about the wonder
Till night obscures the day

I don’t know when it stops
If it does

I don’t know anything about the monster
because I’ve never really looked
to see if it’s there
